An Earthing Transformer (also called a grounding transformer) is used in power systems to provide a neutral point for grounding when the system itself does not have one (like delta-connected systems).
🔹 Purpose:
- Creates an artificial neutral in a 3-phase system
- Allows proper grounding (earthing) of the system
- Helps in detecting and controlling earth faults
🔹 Types of Earthing Transformers:
- Zig-Zag Transformer
- Most commonly used
- Provides grounding without supplying load current
- Wye-Delta Transformer
- Also used to create a neutral
- Can supply auxiliary loads
