A Static Var Generator (SVG), also known as a STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator), is a power electronic device used to control reactive power and improve power quality in electrical systems.
🔹 Working Principle:
- Based on advanced power electronics
- Uses a voltage source converter (VSC) to:
– Generate or absorb reactive power
– Inject current into the system as needed
👉 If system voltage is low → SVG supplies reactive power
👉 If voltage is high → SVG absorbs reactive power
